Benefits Of Waxing & Exfoliating!
There’s nothing more satisfying than getting rid of something that no longer serves you. This extends to everything from bad relationships to dull skin. Hence, exfoliating. Incorporating regular exfoliation into your skincare routine is the ideal way to establish and maintain the healthiest skin possible—with minimal effort. Just as with maintaining a wax routine it is super-important to exfoliate between wax appointments. Why? We’ll explain the why’s and how’s of exfoliation.
Why Should You Exfoliate Between Waxing?
Exfoliation involves the act of removing dead skin cells that camp out on the skin’s surface, i.e., the impurities, dirt, bacteria and excess oil that can either a.) clog pores, b.) cause acne, blemishes or ingrown, or c.) create uneven, dry or dull skin.
Healthier skin and a closer wax—they’re so doable with very little effort! So slough away those dead surface skin cells frequently and without fail, especially between wax appointments.
- Causes the hair to point up and encourages it to grow in the correct direction
- Prompts unwanted hairs to push through the skin’s surface more easily, thereby guaranteeing the closest wax possible
- Sweeps away dead skin cells that clog hair follicles and the area around them
- Helps prevent new ingrown hairs and work loose already existing, embedded ones.
- Keeps skin soft and improves its texture. Soft skin is essential for wax appointments because if skin is dry, brittle or rough (or all of the above), the hair you want removed may break off rather than being removed from the root during your wax appointment.

6 Incredibly Easy Exfoliating Tips
-
- Exfoliate twice or thrice weekly—but do not over-exfoliate, which will lead to dry, irritated skin.
- Pay attention to your skin; if it’s red or sensitive post-exfoliation, lessen your frequency.
- Use a light touch! No harshness necessary.
- Use a gentle scrub with a hydrating agent and smooth (not rough) granules; more abrasive, strong scrubs, including chemical exfoliators, can irritate or burn skin pre- and post-wax.
- Exfoliate the soon-to-be-waxed area the day prior to your appointment to remove any dead surface cells and provide a closer wax. (Not the day of to avoid irritation.)
- Give your skin some time; wait a couple days’ post-wax to exfoliate (any sooner may cause irritation), but do be sure to start the sloughing process to help prevent ingrown hairs.
